Blackbox for
Windows is a minimalist replacement shell
for
Windows based on
Litestep but imitating the original Blackbox
window
manager available on
Linux and
Unix
systems.
BB4Win has its own graphics engine as
well as many plugins including a couple
ShellWM engines for skinning windows
(bbLeanSkin and BBWinSkin). It includes many features meant to
emulate
Explorer, like a
taskbar and
system tray, but for the most part sticks to its
basis.
BB4Win can be modified in many ways,
ranging from basic colours, to complete conversions of the way it
looks. There are three main branches of the Blackbox shell for
Microsoft Windows which are
bbLean,
Xoblite, and
BB4Win.
BB4Win is the most minimal of the three shells
because its purpose was to be simply a straight port of Blackbox
for the
X
Window System.
bbLean and
Xoblite each have added features that extend
beyond the original intent of
BB4Win to remain
completely true to Blackbox on *nix.
BB4Win has
been developed to provide endless functionality, while keeping a
sleek and easy to use desktop. There are many
plugins available for
BB4Win, that range from simple clocks, to
extensive sidebars.
