BBSBEC started in 1994 and at that time it was under Punjabi University, Patiala. In 1997 all the engineering colleges in Punjab came under Punjab Technical University as part of the policy of the Government of Punjab.

In 1997 the strength of the College was increased twice to 180 from 90. Every department in BBSBEC took 60 students instead of the regular 30 students.

Today BBSBEC has 5 departments [2307]. Way back in 1997 there were only three departments, namely; Mechanical Engineering Department [2308], Electronics and Communications Department of Engineering [2309] and Computer Science Department of Engineering [2310].

Male students who joined in 1997 lived in two hostels, namely; Mata Gujri Hostel in Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib and the other Baba Baaj Singh Hostel in BBSBEC, Fatehgarh Sahib. The female students who joined in 1997 lived in Fatehgarh Sahib Gurudwara Saraiyaan.

Mata Gujri Hostel is at a distance of more than 2 Kms from BBSBEC. The intake of Mata Gujri Hostel was 40 students and only 1st year students were taken in. Every student living here had a great bonding between them. During the four years of togetherness students who stayed in Mata Guri Hostel were found to excel in Sport and Extra Curricular Activities but average in Academics.

The students from Baba Baaj Singh Hostel were found to be very studious and did excellent in the Punjab Technical University exams. The credit of excelling in exams goes to the guidance they were able to get from the seniors which were also present in Baba Baaj Singh Hostel, where as in mama Gujri Hostel only 1st year students were allowed.
