Truth is, this guy didn't like publicity that much. Doing
things, feeling free to switch from a soul track to a
dancefloor killa, then to a pop tune to some abstract hip
hop soundscape... from music to words... from being a one-man band
to contributing to a collective... All this seemingly requiered
different pseudonyms. Now, it seems like our fellowmate have
decided to stick to one, brifo, and regroup all of his previous
experiences under one flag.
As Remix Mag puts it:
Sliding
neatly into the definition of a 'DJ's musician', he would be the
hands (and sometimes ears) of many loop junkies eager to spend very
little money on sample clearance.a little history and
some press
Back then, acid-jazz and abstract hip hop was
taking over paris. Hosting a Friday night gig at the Erotica, a 14
pieces band was attracting a crossover crowd of hipsters. Memorable
jams with Jamiroquai, Urban Species, followed by dj sets by Yellow,
Dj Chris (not yet-to-be-called Bob Sinclar), or James Lavelle soon
built up the venue's reputation. The band included Alpha Blondy's
horn section and percussionnist,Giom from Seven Dub or RV [Mr
General Electrics] shaking the rhodes, and holding the guitar was
the guy soon-to-be-called M. On bass, jumping all over stage our
man brifo. Though a deal with Sony, a gig at the Nice Jazz
Festival, holding a fourteen pieces together can be tricky and the
group disbanded right before the release of their album. For the
next three years, Radio Nova continued airing the limited-edition
single "Tout va bien".
The Reminiscence Quartet:====
Brifo was soon offered to record some bass and
guitar parts for a then-new label: Yellow records.
"Salomé was
perfect for - and soon featured on - Psychodelico the first album
by Sinclar-produced Brazilian-influenced acid jazz group, The
Reminiscence Quartet.
The collective toured the
international acid jazz scene, opening for Brooklyn Funk
Essentials' first Parisian show, appearing at the Jazz Bop festival
in Brighton (with Giles Peterson) and performing with jazz legend
Tânia Maria."Andy Reynolds

====Kid Loco
When Yellow recording artist Kid
Loco formed a band for the "Great Love Story"Tour, he naturally
asked Brifo to join in. Followed some memorable gigs all over
Europe, supporting Massive Attack, Björk or Portishead. "Some of
most easy-going mates in that field. Especially regarding the
massive pressure they have been under, due to that unpredictable
success they experienced. Robert from massive, Geoff or Adrian from
Portishead had always been super-friendly with us at that time
(Mezzanine Tour)
Igor&Grishka
A side-project from
two former Kid Loco's band members, Igor & Grishka took off
during the French Touch exclosion. Featured on their own Tempo X
label, they released a couple of vynils, and started playing clubs
gigs, and eventually attracted attention on both DJs and concert
circuits.
Andy Weatherhall: "I Love Joy2. It's the biggest tune!
I play a similar one by Daft Punk which gets screams but this one
got an ever bigger reaction! It's amazing! I can't believe how
crazy people go on the dancefloor when they hear it !"
Ian Pooley:
"Rocking down the house...extra cool".
Ministry Mag:"This Stone to
the bone"
Melody Maker:"Mike Shallcross N°1 bangin' tune of the
week"
New Musical Express:"The unstoppable French revolution
continues"
Mixmag:"Raw and chunky in that inimitable European
Style"
Insync:"With tracks like these they will be huge"
Louise Vertigo
Brifo then got involved with another
bird from the Yellow records' nest, chanteuse Louise
Vertigo.
"Next on the deck is Louise Vertigo's " Ou Est La
Femme" a truly breathtaking cinematic soundtrack laid down by
highly respected Parisian production outfit The Mighty Bop.
Features gorgeous vocals from Louise Vertigo and a very stylish
"dub noir" production which makes you swear you heard this track
before in a Goddard film ! "

Brifo did not know what to expect when
recording with DJ Cam. "My main goal was to help him accomplish his
vision. And Loa Project was indeed a very ambitious one! " said
brifo who end up playing bass, guitars, keys, and doing strings
programming.
"...he [DJ Cam] offers you a world where you can
check not just your head but your feet, your hips and your booty
too."

While in the studio with CAM, brifo
recorded ten tracks of brasilian-oriented electro, soon to be
released by the Subscience label. The first EP lélélé became an
instant underground hit. bum bum got some press, and the tracks
found their way through compilations all over the planet. Seems
like this special cocktail of brazilian and soul-jazz was suitable
with the lounge craze of the moment.
Remix Mag: "Light' is a
pure Bum Bum track - 1/3 Brazil, 1/3 soul, 1/3 electro, with a
twist of sophistication in the making".

"I had been listen to Piazzola for years, and their
cover of Vuelvo Al Sul really caught my soul. We got introduced by
some friends right after the release of their album, and we started
working together on some side-projects. Of course, when they
offered me to tour with them, It felt like a
dream."
