BUECU were until recently affiliated to the
Birmingham University
Guild of Students , but was disaffiliated in a dispute over
BUECU's constitution and membership policy, an event which received
coverage in National newspapers, such as the The Guardian, and
The Times. BUECU
refused to let non-Christians join and only allowed leaders they
chose to stand in uncontested elections, provided they signed very
strict arbitrary doctrinal bases. The voters in theory had the
right to vote against the official candidates but were intimidated
out of it. The Guild made the excellent decision to get rid of the
bigots.
Students ban
