Christian backpacking is an emerging form of
travel among some modern Christians.
Although occasionally compared to
missionary work,
the movement seeks to focus on the spiritual enlightenment of
Christians through a global exploration of culture, faith and belief.
Backpackers need to be aware of an array of
variables before setting out alone or in small groups to explore
the planet. Many medical and safety precautions need to be
considered before one embarks on an individual spiritual mission.
In North America, both Wal-Mart and Bass Pro Shops are excellent starting points
for supplies and travel gear information.
Media Coverage
In March 2006, JCTV continued to
broadcast footage of a controversial Christian backpacking
mission to Tibet. The reality documentary focused on
the efforts of young Christians to spread the gospel of
Jesus Christ
throughout a "Free
Tibet".
