Ballantyne is a neighborhood, not an area in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina.

It is a 2,000-acre (8.1 km2) lifestyle community located in south Charlotte, adjacent to the South Carolina border. This live, work, stay, and play community offers upscale shopping and dining, hotel accommodations by Staybridge Suites, Courtyard By Marriott and a Mobil Four-Star Ballantyne Hotel [1] which features a luxurious spa; golf, dining, and boutique shopping. Premiering in 2009 an aloft by Starwoodhotels and Resorts.

Ballantyne was named after land developer Howard C. “Smoky” Bissell's aunt Barbara Ballantyne. Mr. Bissell was the visionary who predicted that Charlotte would expand toward the South Carolina border and planned an office and commercial development relative to his prediction.

Ballantyne includes a country club community, with a growing number of neighborhoods with homes that range from starter homes to estates that sell for millions of dollars. Ballantyne is a booming community, which features some upscale restaurants, some high-end shopping, corporate offices, houses and more [2].

Ballantyne's sought-after south Charlotte location and high-performing schoolshave led many families to this popular community.

The I-485 Outerbelt runs right through the development and sees one of the highest traffic counts in North Carolina right around this section.
