Bambuterol (INN, marketed by AstraZeneca under the trade names Bambec and Oxeol) is a long acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist used in the treatment of asthma. It is a prodrug of terbutaline.



  • children: 4 to 5 mg once daily -
  • adults: 10 mg once daily.

Availability of bambuterol:

4 mg, 5 mg & 10 mg. tablets.

Breast Feeding:

It is not known whether bambuterol passes into breast milk.


Risks - Benefits ratio must be evaluated by a qualified medical practitioner.

fatigue, nausea, palpitations, headache, dizziness and termor

Drug Interactions:

  • Succinylcholine, MOIs - Monomine oxidase inhibitors, b-blockers, corticosteroids, diuretics, muscles relaxants, sympathomimetic xenathine derivatives.


Hepatic impairment, liver cirrhosis or severely impaired liver function.

Special precautions:

Dose should be reduced in patients with severely impaired renal function - patients with genetic deficiencies of plasma cholinesterase - patients with severe ischamic heart disease.
