About The School
Banyan Elementary School
is Alta Loma’s tenth and last school site to be built. Housed in
temporary facilities, Banyan first opened its doors to 230 students
in 1997. Now in its tenth year, just under 1000 students are housed
in the permanent building and the number of students continues to
grow. Even though Banyan is the newest school, it has consistently
scored higher on standardized tests than any other in the district,
despite the fact that student population increased over 60 percent
during the 2000-2001 school year, bringing new meaning to Banyan’s
school slogan, “Achieving Beyond the Expected.”
Banyan Bulldogs
are a diverse group, speaking nineteen different languages. Banyan
Bulldogs are caring and responsive to the needs of the community.
They get involved in social awareness endeavors such as jump rope
for heart, collecting cans to earn money for PS89 (a New York
elementary school), or collecting shoe boxes full of supplies for
needy children in Operation Christmas. They are eager to
participate in the PTA Reflections program, community track meet,
Math Olympiad, noontime sports program, or can be seen on weekly
student broadcasts produced from the media studio.
The Banyan
parent community has been involved from the conception of the
school. Banyan believes that students benefit when the home and
school work together as a team. Parents are encouraged to spend as
much time as they can on campus working in individual classrooms,
or helping in the staff workroom under the direction of the
Volunteer Coordinator. The Banyan Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
is a true partner that puts kids first in all mutual
endeavors.
The teachers and support staff at Banyan Elementary
School are equal to none. Many are grant recipients and trainers
for the California Reading and Literature Project. Students are
clearly their highest priority. Teachers believe all students are
capable of learning and worthy of our best efforts.
Banyan
Elementary School invites you to visit and experience the
commitment to excellence promoted by staff, parents, and students
in a safe, nurturing environment, where all students find
opportunities for learning.
