Barbara Adler is a four time member of the
Vancouver poetry
SLAM team. She has toured throughout North America and Europe while
completing her undergraduate degree from Simon Fraser University.
She is locally known for her intellectual and humorous spoken word.
She "writes smart, funny, and often deeply moving poetry around
questions of history, identity, and self-image." (Georgia
Straight). She is a member of
The Fugitives. She performs frequently at
spoken word and music events all around the city, and is a regular
at Café Deux Soleils on Commercial Drive in Vancouver's Little
Italy neighbourhood. Here, Barbara is joined by other Vancouver
poetry staples such as Shane Koyczan (T.O.F.U.), R.C. Wesolowski,
Irene Livingston, Magpie Ulysses, Brendan MacLeod, Kim Shaughnessy,
C.R. Avery, Fernando Raguero, as well as local storytellers like
Ivan E. Coyote.
During the 2006 Vancouver Folk Music Festival,
she performed collaborative musical/spoken-word work that included
Allison Russell (Salt, Po' Girl), Timothy Wisdom, and Ganesh
(GaGi).
Her poems "Tall Tale," "Anarchy Monkey" and "Harlequin
Sunrise" are often requested crowd-favourites.
Her latest CD is
called Flusterbush.
