The Barcelona Management InstituteThe
Barcelona Management Institute is a graduate business school
located in Barcelona, Spain, offering a unique Master of Business
Administration program, as well as non-degree executive training.
BMI is privately held, independent, and unaffiliated with any
religious or political groups. The mission of the institute is to
create world-class business leaders by bringing top professionals,
business educators and students together, to develop proven
critical business skills and knowledge, and to provide engaging and
rewarding educational experiences that will enhance self-confidence
and positively impact organizations and transform society.
The
MBA program at BMI has one main objective: to give each student the
tools to become a successful business leader who will be able to
translate learning into action by creating a vision, communicating
it, and driving it to completion. The integrated system of modules
and workshops has been designed precisely to help our students
connect “knowing with doing.”
MBA Faculty
BMI professors come from top-ranked MBA programs and are
internationally recognized experts and consultants. However, at
BMI, being an expert is not enough – being a great teacher is
equally important, and many of our faculty have received teaching
awards at MBA programs from leading business schools in the US,
Europe and South America such as
•
The
University of Michigan (US)
•
The George Washington
University (US)
•
Ohio State University (US)
•
The University of Western
Ontario (Canada)
•
Helsinki School of
Economics (Finland)
•
Central European University
(Hungary)
•
Warsaw School of Economics
(Poland)
The MBA at BMI is
integrated to teach the what, why and how of business today. BMI’s
MBA program is Today’s MBA and as such, its main features are:
•
A general management focus, to make students confident leaders in
any industry, business, or government sector
• An emphasis on
teaching over research
• A curriculum that allows students focus
on one subject at a time
• Training workshops to teach students
practical management skills
• A truly international focus,
attracting professors and students from all over the world
The
MBA is a full-time, 12-months program starting every October,
January and May. Summer courses are also available between early
July and late September. It is entirely conducted in English made
up of five integrated components:
• Modules
• Workshops
•
International Field Trip
• In-company consulting project
(specialization)
• Language and culture
To get a full
understanding of each subject, students focus on one module and one
workshop at a time for about three weeks, before moving to the next
step. Business simulations, the business trip and in-company
consulting project complement theory, and allow students to
challenge each other in real-life situations in a corporate
environment, preparing them for their post MBA careers.
The MBA

Non-degree Programs
BMI provides executive courses, seminars and personal
coaching to meet the needs of different organizations. These are
carefully customized to the client’s objectives and developed by
our network of international management consulting experts at BMI
or at the client’s location around the world. Examples of such
training are Becoming an Effective Executive, Change Management,
Strategic Port Marketing, Business Protocol and Etiquette, or
Negotiation Techniques.
Summer courses to fulfill study-abroad
program requirements are available from June to late
September.
In addition, BMI holds monthly open lectures on
topics of interest to the local business community and students,
such as Understanding Venture Capital or The Challenges of
Developing Cultural Competencies.
Methodology
The focus of the curriculum is
on “learning hours” rather than the traditional contact hours used
as the metrics to award credits. Learning takes place through
active discussion, case studies, simulations and teamwork rather
than reading from a textbook or regurgitating what the lecturer
presents from a podium.
All courses are taught in English and
follow the ECTS credit system. The MBA Program consists of 90
required ECTS credits. Modules provide 60 credits, Workshops 15,
In-Company Consulting Project 10, Language and Culture 5, and the
International Business Fieldtrip 3 ECTS credits.
Admissions
Admission to the MBA program is
highly competitive and involves several steps. Those who meet the
requirements and pass the initial evaluation of the complete
application package are contacted for interviews with current
students, the MBA Program Director and the Academic Director to
determine whether the candidate and the program are a good fit.
Usually, 7% of all applicants are invited to enrol in the MBA
program for every intake, and incoming class size is limited to
make learning more effective. The main decision factor for the
admissions committee, aside from the candidates presenting
themselves as bright, talented, international and self-aware, is
how they may be able to contribute to the learning of
others.
Student visa
When a student
is admitted into the program and pays the required first deposit,
BMI provides the documents to apply for a student visa to Spain in
his or her country, which usually takes between four and eight
weeks.
Accommodation
Once the
student has officially been admitted into the MBA Program, our
staff will provide individual assistance in finding and renting a
room or apartment in Barcelona and smooth the transition to life in
Spain.
Student Activities
BMI
encourages students to take advantage of the great cultural and
recreational opportunities available in Barcelona, Spain, and the
rest of Europe, which is connected to Catalonia by frequent and
numerous low-cost airlines from either El Prat or Girona
airports.
As part of the Language and Culture component, BMI
regularly organizes an array of activities to immerse its students
in the local cultural environment and as a great way to build
classmate camaraderie, student-teacher relations outside of the
classroom, and most importantly to HAVE FUN!
These include
architectural tours to Gaudi masterpieces (Sagrada Familia, Casa
Batllo, Casa Mila, Parc Guell), visits to Barcelona markets (Santa
Catarina, la Boqueria), museums (Picasso, Dali, Miro, MACBA, MNAC),
Barcelona FC soccer games, or even the beach or short skiing trips
as allowed by the pleasant Barcelona weather.
Location
The BMI classrooms and offices are
currently located in the heart of the business district of
Barcelona,L'Eixample. Our address is Rosselló 184, 6th. 3-A. The
building is on the corner of Rosselló and picturesque Enric
Granados, which is known as "The Madison Avenue of Barcelona" for
the advertising agencies that crowd this tree-lined street. It is
considered by many to be the most attractive street in the city for
its wide sidewalks, pleasant cafes and unique architecture.
