Barnet Public Library is a public library in Barnet, Caledonia County, Vermont.

Statistics (2004 figures)


According to 2000 Census figures as reported by the Vermont Department of Libraries, Barnet Public Library serves a population of 1690, with staffing hours equivalent to 0.46 full time employees. No employee had an American Library Association acredited Masters of Library Science. Also, volunteers provided an average of 2 hours of services per week.

In 2004 the 2400 square foot (220 m²) library reported having a collection of 8825 books ( 5800 adult books, 3215 juvenile books), or about 5.22 books per capita. In addition the library had 49 videos ( 19 adult, 30 juvenile) and 129 audio items ( 79 adult, 50 juvenile), for a total collection size of 9003. The library subscibed to 18 periodicals, 8 of them juvenile.

The library reported 500 registered borrowers (370 adult, 130 juvenile), 29.6% of the population served. Patrons visited the library a total of 2184 times, or 1.29 visits per capita. It circulated 2949 items (1488 adult, 1461 juvenile) or 1.74 items per capita. A total of 260 reference questions were also handled. 72 items were requested from other libraries through inter-library loan, 10 items leant to other libraries. The library offered 3 adult programs and 5 juvenile programs. Total program attendance was 400 for the adult programs, 225 for the juvenile programs. The library was open 16.5 hour per week.

The annual budget was $14,000. $12,000 of this was raised by local taxes — $7.10 per capita, additionally $6838 was obtained in grant money. $9128 of that was spent on staffing, $2215 on book purchases, $316 on audio-visual materials and $2575 on other expenditures.

As of the 2004 data, the library offered dial-up Internet access. The library owned 2 computers of which 1 was available for public use. It did not use content filtering. Users logged an average of 15 signups per week. The library did not report having a website.

The library was reported as meeting state standards.
