In a climate where retrospective music is all the rage, Barrel of Monkeys stand out like a sore thumb and that is the way they like it.
There is nothing retro about this band; they are the culmination and indeed the natural progression of all the underground and break through styles of the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s.
This unique band is comprised of experienced Canberra bred musicians; Ben Crawford on drums, Tim Hart on guitar, Chris Gwilt on bass and fronted by talented by new-comer Marc Robinson on keys and vocals.
The sound created by Barrel of Monkeys can be described as a rich blend of genres, layered with brooding and beautiful vocals, superimposed on to a manic landscape of head smashing
industrial/
nu-metal guitars, scintillating keyboard melodies, dirty
funk bass lines and driving rhythms that will chew you up and spit you out.
With such broad song content that ranges from sexual deviance; to scathing attacks on society; to both the lighter and darker sides of life, Barrel of Monkeys has something for everyone.
Influences stem from 80’s
punk and
new wave, 90’s
rock and
industrial and 2000’s
nu metal and
electronica.
Take this and fuse it with the Barrel of Monkeys intense on stage performance and you have one of the most exciting and original bands to play the Australian circuit in years.
