Barry L. Zubrow (b. February 26, 1953) is a current New Jersey diplomat, philanthropist, and former investment banker for Goldman Sachs. Presently, he serves as member of a number of non-for-profit and financial institutions.


Education




Born in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, Zubrow was educated at the prestigious Friends Central School during his youth. He later attend Haverford College, a small but well-known liberal arts school. After graduating in 1975, Zubrow pursued graduate studies at the University of Chicago, earning both a J.D. and an M.B.A.

Career




In 1980, Zubrow began what would become a long and lucrative career at the Goldman Sachs Group, a leading investment bank. He quickly climbed the corporate ladder and soon became a well-respected partner at the firm. The investment banker held a wide variety of positions during his long tenure at the company, including leading the investing division, corporate relations departments, and headed several important committees. He was placed in charge of a number the company's accounts with key clients, such as the Sears-Roebuck account. It was during this role that Zubrow facilitated the historic sale of the Sears Tower. From 1994 through 1999, Mr. Zubrow served as Goldman Sachs' Chief Credit Officer. Finally, Zubrow was appointed Chief Administrative Officer, one of the firm's leading executive positions.

Forbes describes his executive undertakings as “responsible for overseeing departments responsible for financial reporting, credit and risk functions, operations and trade processing, facilities, security, and corporate services (Forbes)”.

Retirement



Zubrow retired honorably from Goldman in 2003, having earned the highest respect and admiration from all his coworkers and employees. He spent almost 30 fruitful years at the firm and was recognized by the company for his crucial contributions during his long and prolific legacy.

Besides contributing to non-for-profit and governmental institutions, Zubrow is also active in the management of several companies. He is currently the President and CEO of ITB LLC, a private investing firm. Additionally, he is the Vice-President of Nuvelo Inc., which is a biotechnology company based near San Francisco, California. Other memberships held by Zubrow include Promontory Financial's advisory board and GSC Capital Corp.

Zubrow pursued other passions, joining numerous boards and institutions. Mr. Zubrow is on the board of the Juvenile Law Center and serves as chairman of Haverford College's board of managers. He served as a member of the Liberty Science Center, but later resigned due to a conflict of interest.


Political Career




In 2006, the newly elected New Jersey governor Jon S. Corzine, who was a former colleague of Zubrow's at Goldman Sachs, appointed him Chairman of the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation. Zubrow also serves as a senior adviser to the governor as well.
