Nf3 Nc6 :3.
Bb5 a6 :4.
Ba4 Nf6 :5.
O-O Be7 :6. d4 exd4 :7. e5 Ne4 :8. c3
The Basque Gambit, named after Basque, is a variation of the Ruy Lopez.
Following from it, black responds with the Morphy Defense (3…a6), causing the bishop to retreat to 4.
Ba4.
Black transposes into a variation of Petrov's Defence with 4…Nf6.
White castles and black employs 5…Be7.
White uses a gambit at 6. d4 and black accepts with 6…exd4.
White advances his e4 pawn, and black moves to 7…Ne4.
White then offers the strategic gambit 8. c3
