Ruth K.Broad/Bay Harbor Elementary
School is an elementary (primary) school located in
Bay
Harbor Islands, Florida. The school will become a K - 8 Center in
the 2008 - 2009 school year.
The current building was completed
for the 1996-1997 school year, at the same time that the school was
renamed from Bay Harbor Elementary School to Ruth K. Broad - Bay
Harbor Elementary School in honor of Bay Harbor founder
Shepard
Broad's late wife. The new school, which covers two blocks,
replaced the much older, smaller school which was located on the
block bounded by 94th and 95th streets and West Bay Harbor Drive
and and Bay Harbor Terrace. The new school featured
state-of-the-art classrooms and computer labs, as well as dedicated
music and art rooms. The larger school also reduced the need for
portable classrooms, which numbered greater than 13 in the year
before the old school was demolished.
