Beaconhouse Group is a privately owned education system in Pakistan, the largest system of its kind in the world. Established in November 1975 as the Les Anges Montessori Academy for toddlers, Beaconhouse has since grown into a large network of private schools, institutes, and universities, imparting distinctive and meaningful education to almost 110,000 students from pre-school to post-graduation. Through close links with leading UK universities, Beaconhouse also helps provide professional education and training to more than 6,000 staff members, enabling them to improve their classroom practice as well as obtain certificates, diplomas and degrees that have global recognition.

History

Until the establishment of the Beaconhouse Public Schools in the major cities of Pakistan, quality education remained the privilege of those few who could gain admission to the handful of existing traditional independent schools that had been established before the creation of Pakistan. Beaconhouse pioneered the arrival of the private school phenomenon in all the major cities of Pakistan.

The Beaconhouse School System has its origins in the establishment of Les Anges Montessori Academy, which was founded in 1975. As soon as the Government of Pakistan permitted the establishment of private schools, the first Beaconhouse Public School was set up in Lahore so that the students of Les Anges would be able to continue and complete their schooling in the same type of educational environment.

Equipped with the understanding and experience of three decades of school management, educational product development, teacher training, and curriculum development, Beaconhouse has in recent years started to move out of its home territory and has embarked upon an ambitious program of establishing private schools in cities throughout Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, and the Gulf. The immediate success of Beaconhouse Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. is one testimony to this journey of globalization.

Since its launch in 1975, Beaconhouse Group has diversified into several business areas and has expanded businesses throughout the world. Beaconhouse Group companies range from primary & secondary schools to IT institutes, universities, internet services trading and transportation. Beaconhouse School System

Beaconhouse now operates 80 branches in 22 cities across the country. Of these, 18 are purpose-built campuses: 7 in Lahore, 3 in Karachi, and 1 each in Islamabad, Multan, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Rahimyar Khan, Quetta, Peshawar and Gujranwala. Most of these were constructed in the mid to late 90s. As we go to press, the student strength is nearly 42,000 and we have a teacher to student ratio of about 1 to 15, a figure that compares favorably with international standards.

Beaconhouse National University

Chartered by the Government of Punjab, the Beaconhouse National University (BNU), was established in 2003 for the purpose of imparting education with a modern, rational, course content while ensuring that the history, culture and the demands of Pakistani society are respected.

BNU is planned as a non-profit, world class private university disseminating learning and encouraging research in diverse areas where the essential focus of the programs offered has been determined by the type of the work force identified for the future economic, business, academic, cultural and technological advancement of the country. As such, BNU offers students a range of subject areas which are of immense relevance to the country’s economy.

Education at BNU is based on the belief that an ideal academic environment should address each student’s interests and needs. A range of courses in liberal arts, social sciences, media and mass communications, fine arts and design, theatre/TV and film, music, literatures and languages and education challenge students to take intellectual risks. The development of this individualized approach to education is achieved through an academic format which is distinguished by the promotion of a dialogue between teacher and student.

A number of unique, innovative practices forward this goal at BNU :

An academic format which encourages the student to read across the curriculum allowing for cross registration in courses offered at Schools other than the one the student is registered in. These courses may be taken as minors or electives.

The University underscores the importance of the creative and performing arts which form an integral part of any liberal arts education. Open workshops and seminars are offered where students interact with scholars and practitioners of international repute.

Each student works with an academic advisor who helps design a program of study most suited to the individual student’s talent and is also available for personal guidance throughout the student’s stay at the University.
