The Title mecha in the Anime series
the Big O is
referred to as "Behemoth" on several occasions. The sea beast
leviathan and the
giant bird ziz are also
referenced in the forms of two mechs of similar design. Similarly
to the myth that the Behemoth and Leviathan are to kill each other
the end of the world, the "Behemoth" and "Leviathan" of this series combat each
other in the series finale.
"Behemoth" is a huge AS (Arms
Slave) mecha in the hit anime series Full Metal Panic,
officially called Plan 1501 it is owned and developed by a
terrorist group called A21 and is powered by a Lambda Driver, its huge
construction and mechanical integrity is dependent on the power
produced by the lambda driver. The colossal AS “Behemoth” is
piloted by Takuma Kugayama. This gigantic AS is nearly 40 meters in
height, and if the Lambda Drivers are not activated upon startup,
this massive AS would collapse under its own weight. In spite of
its large size, the Behemoth moves rather quickly. Its main weapons
include a huge sword suitable for its body size, and a cluster of
30mm cannons mounted in the head. There is not a lot of tactical
data available about the Behemoth, and thus most of its secrets
remain unknown.
The secret super-computer hidden under a
secondary school in the BBC
children's drama Dark Season was named
Behemoth.
Literature
Light verse poet Willard R.Espy
poked fun at the uncertain pronunciation of the word in his poem
"Behold Now Bēhēmoth (Bēhemǒth? Bēhemōth?)"
"Behemoth" appears
in the form of a giant were-cat (called also Begemot), in the
Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The
Master and Margarita. This behemoth is an assistant to Satan,
referred to as Woland.
It's worth noting that in Russian Бегемот (Begemot) stands for a
hippopotamus.
A (fictional) deep-sea microbe
named ßehemoth by its discoverers plays a major role in
Peter Watts's
"Rifters Trilogy" of science fiction novels.
In "The Box of
Delights" by John Masefield, "Behemoth" is the name given to one of
several demons.
Music
Behemoth is also the name of a Polish
blackened death metal band.
Behemoth is listed in a sample of a
Satanic incantation in the song "Symphony for the Devil" by the
band PIG.
"Where Strides the Behemoth" is the third track on
Remission, an album by the
band Mastodon.
"The Flight of the Behemoth" is
the third album by the American drone metal band Sunn O))).
Behemoth is the
third track on the Static-X CD Cannibal.
Behemoth
appears in "Age of Mythology - The Titans"
as a dinosaurian monster that can regenerate, making it a living
siege unit like the Scarab.
Behemoth is a rare and powerful monster in
the Final Fantasy series,
usually fought in a random battle towards the end of the game. They
are often portrayed as towering, horned, muscle-bound creatures
with either purple or silvery-green skin. Additionally in
Final
Fantasy X, Behemoth has the inevitable Meteor Attack which
showers the players with Meteor when defeated.
Behemoth is a
dragon transformation the protagonist, Ryu, can
use in the Breath of Fire series. It consumes the entire
party in Breath of Fire III with heavy health
points, but extremely low speed stat, and in Breath of Fire IV
it grants Ryu a dragon form of fire and earth element.
The giant dinosaurian PokémonGroudon is depicted as Behemoth, the god of The
Land and The Sun, while the giant orcan Pokémon Kyogre resembles the god of The Sea and
The Moon.
Behemoth of the Dark World is the ultimate enemy in
Dark Seed II.
A Behemoth is also one of the many combinable animals in the
RTS game Impossible Creatures. It is represented
as a giant insect with immense mandibles and a tough shell
concealing wings.
The Behemoth is also the name for the Khadoran
unique warjack in Privateer Press's WARMACHINE
Behemoth is a heavy tank and the
Inner Sphere name of the Clan battlemech 'Stone Rhino' in the
Battletech
universe.
In Metal Gear Solid 3 the end boss, a large
tank called the Shagohod translated means "Walking
Behemoth"

a machine that is very, very large and does its work in a slow,

resembling a bipedal version of Blake's artwork, and appears in the
sixth and final stage of the video game. While the player is on a
descending platform, three at a time come out of tower windows and
leap to try to force their bulk against the player.
A Behemoth
was amongst the Holloween Town citizens in The Nightmare Before
Christmas. It's depicted as a large zombie with an axe in
his head.
In the Yu-Gi-Oh!Trading Card Game, there are
monster cards of behemoths, including Twin-Headed Behemoth, Molten
Behemoth, Gravity Behemoth, and Behemoth the King of All
Animals.
