Vampires appear to have both an enhanced sense of smell, shown by vampires recognising werewolves by scent alone, and reflexes, as Mitchell quite easily catches a sudden punch from an enraged George. Their physical strength is also enhanced to an unknown degree.

Ghosts

.Ghosts are the remnants of a person who has died with unresolved issues, which keep them from 'moving on'. The following voice-over narrative by Mitchell at the beginning of the second episode of the series describes the physiological changes that a human (George in this case) undergoes during the transformation into a werewolf:
"He should be dead within 30 seconds. The werewolf heart is about two-thirds the size of a human's. But in order to shrink, first it has to stop. In other words, he has a heart attack. All of the internal organs are smaller, so while he's having his heart attack, he's having liver and kidney failure too. If he stops screaming it's not because the pain has dulled, his throat, gullet and vocal chords are tearing and reforming. He literally can't make a sound. .By now the pituitary gland should be working overtime, flooding his body with endorphins to ease some of the pain, but that too has shut down.^ Perhaps some of the original cast of Star Trek: Enterprise should be brought back to work in the reimagined series, with JJ Abrams supervising the production team.

She and group of people sign a form and are given a number, which upon being called they move to a next room; this repeats itself until the person suddenly disappears. Within staying in death for three weeks, Annie has become extremely distressed and terrified.

The "doors" and the Gatekeepers

When ghosts have fulfilled what keeps them on earth, a 'Door to Death' immediately appears in their immediate vicinity (generally in the nearest wall). In appearance, the door is entirely ordinary, but leads to the next stage of their existence (or possibly their extinction). This is their 'death'.
.When George asks Annie what is on the other side of the door ("Is it something good or something else?"^ It's not something that shocks but Mitchell's scenes with Seth (who's a right bastard, even in this episode) indicated that he hadn't intended to turn Lauren to the other side.

) she replies 'it's probably something else.' .It is sometimes referred to as a good thing because it is seen as an end, as stated by Mitchell in Series One episode 1. Annie then asks George not to look inside the door once she opens it.^ Many had complained that the series was too episodic and predictable but towards the end of its 16 episode run it had begun to develop multi episode arcs that unfortunately will now never be fulfilled.

This version of the afterlife is shared by the ghost Jimmy in Series 2, who enters a door of shining light gladly. .In Episode 2 of Series 2, the inside of the door is shown as a sinister red corridor, possibly representing Hell - when Saul steps inside, the door slams shut and he instantly fades from view.^ At least Warner Brothers stepped up to the plate with sufficient respect for the fan base and released the series’ aired episodes on DVD. .

In Series 2 a further look into death is given. There are apparently entities (referred to by Sykes as "the Gatekeepers") on the other side. The Gatekeepers are depicted as aggressive and possessive (as well as highly manipulative) and want to take Annie into the afterlife, believing that she belongs with them. They attempted to use her former date, Saul, in order to do so. Saul had temporarily died some time ago in a car accident, but the Gatekeepers resurrected him after 6 minutes then manipulated him to be able to take Annie to them. .They did this by communicating to him as hallucinations in his TV, radio and newspaper, then convincing him to have a second car crash so he could die and take Annie through the door instead of himself, granting him life once again.^ He then wore an origami sailor’s cap instead, but they made him take that off as well.

.This implies that any ghost could do this to circumvent their own death (or the entities could have just been lying to Saul to get him to carry out the deed) though as Annie was being dragged to the door by Saul she said it wasn't her door impliying that each door is specific to each ghost.^ And the ghost is pretty typical, she just woke up after her death as a ghost, doesn't understand what's happening yadda yadda.

However, Saul cannot bring himself to "kill" Annie and throws himself through the door instead.
In the same episode, part of the afterlife is also shown. Annie, Saul and the viewer see past 'the door' and see a red corridor. .When Annie and Saul died before, they saw a white corridor, with threatening men around them carrying ropes and sticks, an experience described as 'a nightmare'. When this door appeared, the other real door into the room seemed to lock, preventing George from entering, suggesting that death has some physical control over the real world.^ What's up with the men with sticks and ropes that Annie discussed with Mitchell?

In the last episode of series 2, it was shown that there was a 'limbo' place where ghosts initially went to, and they could communicate with the living through electronic devices before they moved on to a 'higher plane'
The afterlife tends to influence mentally unbalanced individuals to drag renegade ghosts into the afterlife, such as alcoholics and mad men. The Gatekeepers can also detect when electronic devices near renegade ghosts have been turned on, in order to possess them. If many electronic devices have been possessed near a ghost's place of death, then the afterlife can influence the world to a greater extent, creating auditory and visual hallucinations, such as Annie's death or Sykes' battles.
.Death' door appeared in the second series finale, opening to reveal a black void, which managed to drag both Annie and a newly-made ghost inside.^ Through three seasons of plot twists, slow burn reveals, and WTF moments (black smoke monster, Jacob, death after death after death), the series pulls the ultimate bait and switch and reveals that some of these beloved character have in fact made it off the island, after all.

Annie later became the first person shown to temporarily return from behind the door, by appearing as a blue faint spirit with the ability to physically interact with and appear to humans. When Kemp was pushed through the door by Annie, he disappeared. Annie mentions that the Gatekeepers are angry about this, as they "don't have a form for it".

[To George, after seeing her ex-fiancé with another woman]
Annie: I just wanted a chance to explain. You don't know him, you don't know how he'd reacted but I knew. I just I knew that if he saw me again he'd – but he couldn't see me. And now he's got someone else, and now she gets to kiss his him and watch him shave and laugh and I'm still in the clothes that I died in. I get nothing. She gets him and I get you.

Annie: So what did you think of her then, Janey?
George: She's orange.
Annie: She worked in a tanning salon. She thinks that looks classy. I think she looks like Kilroy.

Episode 2

Mitchell: We can't just dip our toe! We have to dive into the churn of humanity. Laugh with them, listen to their stories.
George: About Vin Diesel?
Mitchell: A remarkable man, I'm starting to realise.

Annie: Maybe he's had a blow to the head.
George: I'm sorry?
Annie: Happened to my Nan. She got hit in the head by a radio controlled plane at a county fair. From that moment - obsessed with pygmy goats.
George: There wasn't a single bit of that sentence I understood.

George: We have to put a stop to this.
