Ben Esler is an Australian actor.
He was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, the son of Rosemary and Murray Esler. Esler is a graduate of the University of Melbourne.
He has appeared in prominent roles in HBO's Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg produced and Emmy nominated miniseries The Pacific as WWII Marine Charles "Chuck" Tatum, the Australian police drama Blue Heelers, the ABC Australia made for TV movie Curtin, and has been announced as a lead in the upcoming Disney teen franchise Prom, to be directed by Joe Nussbaum, and which has been compared to High School Musical and the films of director John Hughes.
Esler has also been announced as a series regular in Hell on Wheels, a Western focusing on the construction of the transcontinental railroad, to be screened on the AMC Network, in the role of Sean.
After portraying Tatum in The Pacific, Esler was invited to contribute an additional chapter to Tatum's WWII memoir, Red Blood, Black Sand which was used as source material for the series. The book, including Esler's contribution, is scheduled for re-release in late 2010.
