History
The Bergen Avenue Bus Owners Association is a
New Jersey Transit owned private bus company based in
Bayonne, NJ.
Ever since the 1950s, the Bergen Avenue IBOA has transported passengers from Bayonne to Journal Square and Back again.
The historic fleet of Bergen Avenue IBOA ranged from Mack buses in the 1950s, to New look Fixibles in the 1960s and 1970s, Fixible 870's in the 1980s and 1990s to the Nova Bus RTS that makes up the Bergen Avenue Fleet.
For a few years, Bergen Avenue also had some Fixible Metro-D transit buses, but were since sent to New Jersey Transit's Greenville Garage in
Jersey City.
Service & Routes
Bergen Avenue Buses run from Journal Square to the Bayonne Military Terminal with Stops on Bergen Avenue, JFK Boulevard, Greenville Hospital, Ocean Avenue and others.
Additionally, Service on the Bergen Avenue line also runs to the
Meadowlands in
East Rutherford, NJ with service operating through JFK Boulevard, Tonnelle Avenue and Route 3.
Fares
A one-zone trip on the Bergen Avenue line is $1.50 in exact fare and $2 for a two-zone ride.
Two-zone rides include crossing the Jersey City-Bayonne City Line.
Reduced fares are $.75 for a one-zone ride and $1 for a two-zone ride.
The New Jersey Transit Bus Pass is accepted on all Bergen Avenue IBOA Buses.
Buses used by Bergen Avenue IBOA
The only buses used on the Bergen Avenue IBOA are the 1999-2000 Nova Bus RTS's.
The Buses are numbered #1240-1244 and #1523-1528.
Buses #1529-1531 were sold to Academy #22 in 2006.
