Bermaga is a
derogatory term used in the
Star Trek fandom to refer collectively to former Trek showrunners
Rick Berman and
Brannon Braga.
The two have widely been blamed for ruining the franchise.
Coined by "Keckler" at
Television Without Pity[383], the term quickly spread throughout fandom.
It even became used by people directly involved in Star Trek, most notably
Jolene Blalock.
[384]Berman and Braga both became involved in Star Trek during
Star Trek: The Next Generation, but the damaging influence of Bermaga is generally seen to have been at it's greatest during the runs of
Star Trek: Voyager, and
Star Trek: Enterprise, as well as the decisions put into the Star Trek movies "
Generations" "
Insurrection" and "
Nemesis"
Since the demise of
Star Trek: Enterprise, the term has been used as short-hand when discussing the quality of a science fiction show.
For instance, former Star Trek writer
Ron Moore, now
show runner of the critically acclaimed
Battlestar Galactica, has been referred to as the anti-Bermaga.
