== Overview ==
Better than Gandhi is the first album by the
funky punk rock group
Das Ubermensche. It was released in
mid-
2005 and was met with
instant acclaim around the bands local area. The tracks on the
album include:
'Defenestration Genocide''UTB''Bringing
Down The Collective Intelligence Of The Human Race''The Rise Of
Herpes (Bummer Of 69)''Staken I Baken''Virtuoso Penis Player
(Poker)'The album was recorded between late
2004 and early
2005 using only
Vocals, guitar, bass and drums with
backing vocals in some songs. The album is all the bands own works
and is built around the harmony between guitar and bass with fast
drumming and wailing vocals.
Unusual Song Titles
Many
of the songs on the album have dubious and eccentric song titles,
for example 'Defenestration
Genocide' is generaly considered to be the act of
killing thousands of people by throwing them out of a window. UTB
is assumed by fans to be an abbrieviation of the phrase 'Up The
Bum', a slang term associated with
Anal Sex.
Origins
Rumour has it that
the name of the album was derived from a friendly dispute between
guitarist, Rory Collins, and band liason Daniel Padwick (who,
incidently, also did most of the artwork for the album) during
there Silver
Duke of Edinburgh Final Expedition. It is
said that the argument was over who, in there opinion, did/has done
most for human rights in their lifetime. Daniel argued the point
for
Mahatma
Gandhi whilst Rory believed it to be
Bob Geldof. Rory then decided to name the
album after this argument, as his way of getting the proverbial
1-up on Daniel. It should also be noted that Bassist, James
Hollands, fervently argued that
Ren
& Stimpy were the greatest human beings ever, because they
allegedly taught him to read.
This rumour has recently be
confirmed by Rory Collins and various others present at the time of
the dispute.
