Beur is a colloquial term to designate French-born folks whose parents are immigrants from North Africa. The word was coined by reversing the syllables of the word arabe ,which means Arabic or Arab in French. The term is slightly pejorative and not advised in formal speech with respect to etiquette .This term actually means that descendants of North Africa immigrants are not recognised as mainstream French people. Beur are still suffering discrimination in access to employment or to lease a dwelling
Since the late 1990s, a lot of young people use the twice-verlanised term rebeu as a synonym. A female beur can be called a beurette.
Beurs have their origin in the countries of the Maghreb (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria).
