History

The band came together five years ago and has already performed at a number of shows. The band originally started out as a joke until they reached the finals at a competition in Chennai.. The band was formed and named by Jaison and Sriram who recruited several members including Sera Kattoua Aman, Ravi Balakrishnan, Baba and Rahul to join the band. Of the original band only Baba and Rahul remain in the BM. The band regularly has jam sessions at N.O.C. The Jam Studio in Mumbai.

Performances

Having been on the Indian rock scene for close to seven years, Bhayank Maut (or BM for short) as it is known as among its fans has played at college fests such as RAIT Horizons, IIT Chennai – Saarang (Finalists), NLS Strawberry Fields Bangalore, BITS Pilani and Goa's Waves Festival. The band also had numerous gigs at venues like Cyclone, Pune. They played at the first gig at Razzberry Rhinoceros and second at SIES Sion college festival. However, the first gig with Vinay as the front man was JRO 2004 and they also came third at Blitzkrieg 2004 – the IIT Delhi competition. Another highlight in the band’s meteoric rise has been playing at GIR in 2007 in New Delhi alongside Norwegian band, Enslaved.

Their biggest break yet came in 2007 when they reached the finals of Garnier Fructis presents Channel V Launchpad live at Hard Rock Café, held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.[3] In November 2008, Bhayanak Maut played on stage at the Great Indian Rock (GIR) show at Mumbai alongside Satyricon and Sahg, and received good reviews for their performance in GIR Shillong[4] too.[5]

Jai Row Kavi took over as Bhayanak Maut's drummer in August 2009 as Rahul Hariharan decided to take a year off and complete his Master's degree in the UK.

With Jai filling in for Rahul, Bhayanak Maut played at GIR 2009 in Pune and Delhi sharing stage with Norway's Benea Reach. Most recently, on December 5th 2009, Bhayanak Maut shared stage with Holland's Textures and Sweden's Amon Amarth at Deccan Rock 2009 in Bangalore, India.

In early 2010, vocalist Vinay Venkatesh decided to only work with the band on their studio projects. The band is currently writing material with Jai Row Kavi on drums.

Bhayanak Maut is a metal band from Bombay, India. Bhayanak Maut (which translates to Scary Death in English) was named so to dispel all notions about band names in India, which are either corny or atrociously Indian. The name was therefore chosen as it defines them as a band, fun yet crushing. Funnily, the name itself has been able to generate a million reactions from metal heads all over, reactions ranging from amusement to amazement.
The band came together roughly a year ago in 2004 and has already played quite a number of shows impressing people all over. Their music is an eclectic mix of metal / hardcore / death metal /nu-metal. This is owing to the varied musical interests of the band-members ranging from Death to Deftones. The band believes in making original music as they believe that it is their extension into the musical dimension.

Achievements

It's not a surprise that when these four get on stage, they don't get off unless they have set it ablaze and sent the mosh pits in an eddy. And when it comes to putting up a show, these four do it day in and day out. In fact, in the three odd years of their career as a band, Bhayanak Maut has managed to achieve things that other bands of the same age only dream of. They laid waste stages like NLS Strawberry Fields where they were adjudged best band in the year 2004 and also the prestigious Livewire-IIT Bombay competition which saw them walk away with a plethora of awards including Best Band of 2005, Best Original Composition (Boiled.Unwound.Filatured), Best Bassist and Best Drummer. They have also been invited twice over to play at the annual JRO festival (Chennai) and have played numerous college and club gigs all over the country, frequently playing in New Delhi, Bangalore and their hometown, Bombay.
