Mural on west exterior wall of Biblioteca Latinoamericana
The
Biblioteca Latinoamericana is a
library featuring
Spanish
language books, magazines newspapers, and flags from
Latin
American countries that are all available for check out. Part
of the public library system of
San Jose, California,
USA, the
branch has a bilingual, bi-cultural staff. In addition to Spanish
collections of Latin American history, culture, and literature, the
Biblioteca also features
Mexican American studies, materials on
Latin America in English, a special
health collection in Spanish, and
fiction in English by Latino authors.
There is a large children’s collection in Spanish, including a
bilingual section and a teen area.
Biblioteca's roots began in
1974, when some private
citizens began checking out books in Spanish from a church. After
receiving a state grant in 1976, the Biblioteca affiliated with San
José Public Library and was housed in several buildings in the
following years. In 1988, Los Amigos de la Biblioteca (Friends of
the Library) was reactivated and community members organized for a
new building specifically built for the Biblioteca. The current
15,000 square foot (1400 m²) building opened on
November 20,
1999. Original artwork by local artist
Pilar Aguero adorns the walls and provides a glimpse of the beauty
of Latino culture. The outdoor patio features a beautiful fountain
created by South Pasadena artist
Elsa Flores.
Conspiricysome of these people are very
extereme and will do anything to get there point across, such as in
1964 when over 300 californians were dead after a ritulitic killing
om mass proprtion. Many groups have been trying to put a stop to
it. The CSP "California State Pollice' is ignoring this matter
because of the major lack in eveidence. But some sourses say that
this group payed off the State police to ignore there case. One
major group is the ABA also known as the Anti Biblioteca
