Big City Bob is the nickname of
Creative Writer, Independent Recording Artist, Vocal Impressionist and
Entertainer Bobby Rivers, born Roberto Glen Alicea in
Green Bay, Wisconsin to Cruz Rivera Alicea of
Puerto Rico and Sandra Jean Peters of
Suamico, Wisconsin.
Big City Bob (Bobby Rivers) is not the
Bobby Rivers from
Milwaukee who later hosted on
VH-1 and The
Food Network, nor is he
Bob Rivers, the
parody recording artist and radio DJ on
KZOK-FM in
Seattle.
He wrote his first lyric in 1977 at the age of 10 and began playing instruments around 1980.
His musical influences were broad and included
Genesis,
Kiss ,
Elvis Presley,
The Beatles,
Rick Springfield,
Nick Gilder,
Iron Maiden,
Eddie Money,
Benny Mardones,
George Jones,
Buck Owens,
George Strait and
Conway Twitty.
He began writing material with school mate Jef Jaeger at Fox Valley Lutheran High School in
Appleton, WI in 1982 at age 15.
He and Jef, after failing to put a working live band together, would record four
Christian Rock albums from 1992 to 1997 under the name 'Fallen Race', including family and friends in the process.
[82].
The name came from the old
WELS Lutheran Hymnal,
Hymn 57 verse 4.
From 1995 to 2001 he picked up the nicknames "Big City Bob" and "Bobby Vegas" while doing solo shows in the
Kewaunee County area.
He also resided in that area from 1989 to 2006, in the City of
Kewaunee.
On most of his various solo recordings, assembled and released under the name 'Bobby Rivers' from 2002 to 2007, he played all the instruments (
guitars, bass,
drums and
keyboards) and did all the vocal parts, lead and background.
Amongst hundreds of solo writings and works since 1977, he wrote and recorded "Son of a Boy Named Sue" in 1999, a
sequel of
Johnny Cash's top ten hit, "
A Boy Named Sue", which was written by
Shel Silverstein.
Shel Silverstein wrote a sequel called "The Father of the Boy Named Sue".
See
"The Father Of The Boy Named Sue" lyrics at Shel Silverstein's Adult Works.
"Son of a Boy Named Sue" strangely references both works, and was written shortly after Shel Silverstein passed away.
Johnny Cash did not record either sequel song.
In 2006 he formed a local group in Green Bay with ex-drummer from the
Nashville Rockabilly Hall of Fame Band, Al Kilian, and Jim Morrison, an original member of the 1961
rock and roll group, "The Centuries".
Jim Morrison (not
Jim Morrison from
The Doors) came up with the name of '3's Company' and they play selections from the original rock and roll era.
The entertainer also does various vocal impressions of other legendary singers during his shows such as
Johnny Cash,
Elvis Presley,
Neil Diamond,
Conway Twitty,
Buddy Holly,
Willie Nelson,
Waylon Jennings,
Davey Jones,
Jim Reeves,
Bob Dylan,
Roy Orbison,
Garth Brooks,
Rick Springfield,
Freddy Fender,
Jimmy Buffett,
George Jones,
Johnny Rivers and many others.
