History

The Big Day Out forum (BDO Forum) is the official discussion forum for the annual Australia/New Zealand music festival, the Big Day Out. It first appeared around the summer of '98/'99, and went through several system changes before settling on the phpBB system some time around August '05. However there are users against this system due to its lack of image hosting in threads.

Miscellaneous info

The forum has over 4,000 registered users, with around one hundred members active throughout the "off-season" (March-Septmeber). Gonz was the undisputed king of the forum, all others trembled in his mighty wake.

A true breeding ground for innovation and a central place for the quest of discovering the greatest music known to mankind, the genre known as "Man Beating a Goat", also lovingly referred to as "M-bag", was coined by prolific forumer ANGY as a way of defining good music. It is a term that is increasingly becoming the popular method of tagging music possessing excellent qualities on popular playlist website, Last.FM.

There is an alternative message board, titled 'Ze List'. Its an exlusive club that you must know someone that is a member in order to gain an invite. You can check it out here: http://s11.invisionfree.com/zelist/index.php?act=idx

Kevin (aka Kevin_Bacon and BDOkev) is rumoured to be Melodie Mars. He wont confirm or deny these alligations.

Festival Lineup Announcement History (A Forum perspective)

The Great Announcement Hoax

One of the most notorious forum moments came in late 2003, when forum mainstays Yabba Dabba Drew (now known as Cereal_Killer) and Nomza managed to gain control of administrator Melodie Mars' account and pasted a hoax announcement for the 2004 Big Day Out. This hoax was so believable that it even went to air on national youth radio network, Triple J, as a news item.

Subsequent to this hoax, and the realisation of a need for tighter security measure, the pair were called upon alongside mikezero and Glenn to moderate the forums, against any unauthorized postings of such information.

2003 Lineup Announcement Leak

As a means of testing the new site, Big Day Out website developers would block access to the website by making an index page saying "under construction", with no links into the site. However, they overlooked the fact that some people had still bookmarked the old pages within the site, some having bookmarked the "lineup" page.

In late 2003, about 3-4 days prior to the announcement, forumer Ottovilos exploited this back-door entry and discovered the lineup waiting to be announced. It was promptly leaked to the forum.

Forum Community Games

Many BDO forumers take their relationships onto other internet sites. Some popular game sites that forumers use together include:

ISketch
Monopoly
Balderdash
Forum Survivor
Camdenites

The Camdenites are the most popular forum clique, yet humble. They arent elite, anyone can come and join. Currently they have four members: cereal_killer, KingBuzzo, Kortni and stevobelievo. They are named after their place of residence, the town of Camden, New South Wales, their level of selfworth is clearly overvalued.

Jatz is an example of someone more important.
