Bill Kozlowski (1971-2004), founder of the
Juneau,
Alaska based rock band Peabody's Monster, and co-founder of
Rock
Alaska Records. He was born Oct. 22,
1971, in
Germany, and was raised in
Washington. He met his wife,
Sierra Kaden, while
attending The
Evergreen State College in
Olympia, WA.
After graduating in 1994, they moved to Juneau in 1995 where
Kozlowski.
Much of Kozlowski's songwriting stems from the fact
he had Von Willebrand's disease, a variant of
hemophilia, and knew his
lifespan would be limited. Recurring motifs included living life to
the fullest, freedom, angst about current world leadership, and
(due to his fused ankles) dancing.
Many of Kozlowski's works
can be found on his
Memorial
Site.
Kozlowski performed mostly with voice, guitar, and
saxophone. He was also an amateur keyboardist and recording
producer.
In 2002, he founded
Juneau Information Service
Technology, a disability advocacy group. Kozlowski was a strong
voice for the disabled, speaking out about
medicinal
marijuana,
alternative treatments, and
social
inclusion. Also of note, Kozlowski was a certified reverend of
the Church of Music, a member of H.E.M.P., Alaska, and a member of
the Jackie Chan Fan Club.
