William Montgomery (born March 2, 1967) is an American lawyer and politican. The oldest of three children, he was born in Lynwood, California. Bill grew up in a single parent household where public assistance was often the only source of financial support for his Mom and younger sister and brother. Despite these austere circumstances, Bill graduated near the top of his high school class in 1985 and became the first person from his high school to attend West Point.

Bill graduated and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant at West Point in 1989. Bill’s first tour of duty was at Fort Hood in Texas. In October of 1990, he deployed as a Tank Platoon Leader with the 1st Cavalry Division in support of Operations Desert Shield and Storm, leading a tank platoon throughout all phases of combat operations and was awarded a Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. Bill concluded his active duty career in 1995 as a Captain following a tour commanding an armored cavalry troop with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Bill has since attained the rank of Major in the Individual Ready Reserve,.

Upon leaving active duty, Bill returned to California to Silicon Valley to work in the private sector. Over the next few years, he worked as a product marketing engineer for Applied Materials and Hitachi PC Corporation. In each role, Bill worked to forge relationships among consumers and engineers to deliver profitable products that met customer expectations and improved business performance. What was probably more important, though, was that Bill met his future wife within two months of moving to the area. Married for nine years, Bill and Becky have two children, William, three years old, and Madeline, one.

Bill and Becky came to Arizona in 1998 in search of a place to put down roots, buy a home, raise a family, and earn graduate degrees at ASU – Becky an MBA and Bill a law degree. Bill graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned the Order of the Coif from the College of Law in 2001 and was the Truman Young Prosecution Fellow. As part of the prosecution fellowship, Bill prosecuted at the City of Phoenix Prosecutor’s Office, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, the Criminal Appeals section of the Attorney General’s Office, and at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
Following graduation, Bill began working at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Initially, working on domestic violence charging, Bill went on to serve the citizens of Maricopa County prosecuting Felony DUIs, Vehicular Manslaughters and Aggravated Assaults, repeat felons and criminal street gangs and their members. In September of 2004, Bill began a civil practice with the firm of Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard & Smith. In order to care for his Mom, diagnosed with cancer in October of 2004, Bill began his own law firm in 2005 worked for the Crime Victim’s Legal Assistance Project representing victims throughout the criminal justice process safeguarding their constitutional rights. Bill has since wrapped up his practice and is campaigning full time.

Bill has also been active in his community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Furthermore, Bill was awarded a Mayoral Excellence Award as the Town of Gilbert’s Man of the Year in 2004 for his service on the Gilbert Community Activities Board and his chairmanship of that board for the past two years.

Bill is now focused on the opportunity to serve the State of Arizona as its next Attorney General. Seeing a leadership void in the office of Arizona’s chief law enforcement officer and attorney for the people of Arizona, Bill wants to bring his prosecutorial approach, years of leadership training and experience and community involvement to bear in fighting our nation-leading crime rate, addressing the impact of illegal immigration, representing the will of the voters, and bringing the quality service Arizona citizens have every right to expect from someone serving as Attorney General. Bill seeks to insure that Arizona’s laws are faithfully and impartially administered in an active effort to safeguard Arizona communities and its citizens and will strive to make Arizona a place for people to live, work, and raise their families.
