Bill Simon is a Internet publisher who operates
the
Political Vine, the
oldest political blog in the U.S. state of
Georgia,
founded in 2000 and known for its "acid commentary on divisions
within the Georgia Republican Party." Simon is best known as a
critic of
Christian conservative leader
Ralph Reed and
other social conservatives, "Neo Nasties" in Simon
parlance. Simon is a self described
champion of the
moderate wing of the
Republican
Party.
Although Reed is his most frequent target, Simon has
evidenced a fixation with former Congressman
Bob Barr and radio talk show host
Anthony-Scott Hobbs. Other targets
include former Congressman
Tom DeLay, Congressman
Tom Price, and the
Christian
Coalition.
Simon was the subject of a
censure resolution introduced at the 2004
county convention of the Cobb County Republican Party. The
resolution was narrowly defeated, with delegates instead opting to
express their views of Simon by rejecting his candidacy as a
delegate to the state convention.
Simon is a graduate of the
Georgia Institute of
Technology.
