From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bill Smith (born 1958) is the fifth general manager for the Minnesota Twins. He took over October 1, 2007 from long time manager and mentor Terry Ryan. Since assuming the role of G.M. he has failed to extend 2-time Cy Young winner Johan Santana's contract, eventually trading him to the Mets for Carlos Gomez, Deolis Guerra, Kevin Mulvey and Phil Humber. In addition he has traded away pitching phenom Matt Garza and starting shortstop Jason Bartlett for Delmon Young and Brendan Harris.

Smith graduated from Hamilton College in 1980.

Smith lives in Bloomington, MN with his wife, Becky, and three daughters.
