Location of the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area in Alabama

The Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area, also known as Greater Birmingham, is a metropolitan area composed of 7 counties in central Alabama. The area is also part of the Birmingham-Hoover-Cullman Combined Statistical Area. The population of the metro area as of the 2008 census estimate was 1,117,608. It is the 48th largest metropolitan area in the United States according to the 2000 census.
