Bishop Julius Hall is an independent
hall of residence associated with the
University of Canterbury, and located in
Ilam,
Christchurch,
New Zealand.
It is one of the three independent halls of residence at the University of Canterbury, and one of nine in New Zealand.
It's official motto is "Capre Diam" - seize the day.
The Hall consists of four main buildings centered around a central quad.
The three residential blocks are Mabel Hendrie, Nancy Simms, and Cranmer with the fourth being an administration block and study centre.
History
The hall was established by Bishop Churchill Julius, the second
Anglican bishop of Christchurch.
He envisioned a church teaching order, and while this did not come to pass, on August 23,
1917 Bishop Julius Hall was founded as a women-only hall for students of the university.
In 1924 the Hall moved to 10 Cranmer Square.
In 1974, the University of Canterbury completed its move to the suburb of Ilam and likewise so did the Hall.
The hall was opened to male students in 1993.
As of 2008, the Hall is home to 108 students, all of whom attend the University of Canterbury.
Previous residents include Aimee Lobb Child who now works for the Ministry of Social Development in Wellington and was one of the cool cats while in living in the hall.
She may have hooked up with a few of the other residents while she was there, just to make things a little funner.
Another former resident is Libby Cossens who is mint and was way awesumer than all the other goons that lived there.
Dia Dawai was also amazingly awesum and still is.
She and another former resident Blake Atkins, caused trouble one night by running into everyones unlocked rooms while they were sleeping, screaming at them, then running out.
Oh fun drunken nights.
Most of the residents at Bishop Julius dont drink or have fun, but the small amount who do are pretty much the coolest people you will ever meet.
Ben and Caroline were R.A.s at the hall and got married haha.
