Bitter Club Anonymous (BCA) is a University of Canterbury club from Christchurch, New Zealand.
The association was formed in 2005 and has been considered a notable part of fraternity life since. The BCA works as an anger support network where campus members who are undergoing stress, bitterness or are becoming "imbitternated" meet on a weekly basis for counselling sessions over a pitcher at the Common Room, formely the Foundry, or over a lunchtime meander at the UCSA or Captain's Bens licensed restaurant. Current topics on the BCA agenda include breaking up with girlfriends, getting shot down, advice on gambling and alcohol addictions, plus any other area of life where bitterness is a threat. At the end of every academic year, the BCA have an end of season awards night, "The Bitters," where trophies are handed out in a variety of "bitter" categories. Bitter themed musical sonnets such as "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve and "Bitter Tears" by INXS are usually jokingly played. Last year the red carpet affair was staged successfully at Egan Park. Division Terraces recently won the right to host the 2006 Bitters, which is scheduled for November 2006.

BCA's slogans include "As bitter as I wanna be" and "Loyal to the bitter end."

The BCA is always looking to expand its growing membership, and the club usually adds new bitteroes at the University of Canterbury's annual Club Day held in early March.

Early History

While the BCA was offically established in 2005 its formation goes back to 2003/04.
Lunch time meetings were regularly held by David Ohs and Liam Doyle at Canterbury University Foundry. From those humble beginings membership grew to the thriving club it is today. Its official inception came when founding member David Rustbatch came up with the name sometime in early 2005.

    Martin Crowes Bitterness

"the magnitutde of the bitterness" for Martin Crowe escalated from the ealy 90's right through to when he retired.Rumours of Crowes sexuality kept being the subject of hot discussion.
Crowe "lost the plot' at the end of the 1995 and accused bitter NZ journalists of making 'gay jibes' at him. An example of this was when the NZ herald wrote that he was out with a "mystery virus' refering to the fact he mite have aids. And they also wrote that he "likes the backward square leg region."
