Bitter Halo is Drist's first studio album.
When asked about the title of the album, front man Tyson Yen said, "I wanted the title of the record to summarize the messages contained in the entire album.
While writing this record most of my thoughts were based on the notion that people often times hold up ideals or beliefs derived from negativity.
"Bitter Halo" encompasses this idea."
Drist signed their recording agreement with Spunout Records in July 2002, and producer Ulrich Wild (of Deftones, P.O.D., Incubus, and Taproot) was brought in to remix the band's album before release.<ref> </ref>
