Black-Eyed Kids (BEKs) are mythological or folkloric beings that generally seem to be paranormal children roughly anywhere between 10-17 with coal black eyes with a lack of pupil and iris. A few incidents have been reported with Black-Eyed Adults but the BEAs don't ask for an invitation of any sort or attack although it's yet unclear what the adult motives might be. It has been suggested that they often appear as children to look less threatening. They look completely like normal kids to the people they manage to catch but their true forms are likely a lot scarier which is why more sensitive people feel so scared around them.

The first well documented and discussed account came from a journalist named Brian Bethel in 1998. Most accounts occur at the individual's home. There is a knock on the door and waiting patiently on the other side is a young child. Their clothing is reported to be common for the time and they seem rather normal until the sudden fear and the sense of wrongness sinks in just before the noticing of those unnerving eyes. Almost all people who have run-ins with BEKs are too overcome with an unexplained fear and end up turning them away. This only infuriates the kids and they appear to grow impatient and more demanding that they be let in. Also, they will never actually leave until the person they have approached has either closed the door or left the scene of the encounter although in some of the more recently reported cases the BEKs seem to stalk/haunt the victim apparently trying to wear them down until finally hoping to find they're way inside.

The BEKs will always ask to be invited inside. Sometimes they claim that they need to use the telephone because they are lost, or their car broke down just up the road (plausible only for the older-looking ones). If anyone has ever let them inside, there are no credible accounts. They're always dressed in regular modern day clothes although they never wear sunglasses or anything of that sort. It is suspected that since they're eyes are the source of they're power anything breaking eye contact might hinder or weaken it. If this were the case it wouldn't be much of a surprise if the cases where victims were affected through windows and yet had the power to doubt the children's intentions and say "No" instead of giving in and letting them "use the phone".

Paranormal Controversy

The BEKs have caused much confusion in the paranormal society with they're need to be invited which seems to stem from vampire origins [2178] considering vampires are the most famous mythological examples of demons who need invitation before entering ones home along with the apparent power they seem to have of shape-shifting [2179], although the BEKs don't seem to be vampires at all. It is suspected that they're eyes tend to use a type of hypnosis or mind control which at the same time seems to induce the fear (it is suspected this isn’t on purpose). It is also said that these BEKs may be extraterrestrial in origin [2180]. Beings from another world although they're intentions seem more menacing that classic UFO reports suggest and none of the reported BEK incidents seem to bear any similarities to UFO or alien accounts at all aside from possible telepathy and often time resemblance in eyes and possibly height (when compared to Grey Aliens) according to certain eye-witness reports although this space invader idea of has generally been dismissed.

The Original Story

The first well documented and discussed account of BEKs came from a journalist named Brian Bethel in 1998. In his story, two children (not quite teens, but close) approached him as he sat in his car while parked in a parking lot. At first glance, the kids looked normal, wearing modern clothes any other child would wear during the time and had a pale, olive colored skin. In noticing the two boys, Bethel was overcome with a strange fear that he describes in his account as: "I could feel fight-or-flight responses kicking in. Something, I knew instinctually, was not right, but I didn't know what it could possibly be."[2181]

Claiming that they were on their way to see a movie but had left their money at home, the two boys asked Bethel for a ride back to their house. When Bethel did not allow them into his car, the kids seemed to get annoyed and kept asking for a ride. As Bethel's fear and panic increased, he for some odd reason actually found himself wanting to open the door. Although, when Bethel noticed their eyes, an incredible fear took over and briefly paralyzed him - the kids had coal black eyes, completely lacking pupils and irises.[2182]

As if sensing that their chance for entry into the car was coming to and end, the children became more urgent and demanding. Bethel was finally able to control his fear and set it momentarily aside and drive away. While his story sounds like something out of a horror novel, there are other reported similar accounts to back it up. [2183]
