The 'Black Dragon Series' is a series of monster cards in the anime and manga series Yu-Gi-Oh! and in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game revolving around the Red-Eyes Black Dragon.

Animé/Manga History

In the anime, Red Eyes belongs to Rex Raptor, a former world champ. In an early duel with Joey Wheeler, he bets the card against Joey's Time Wizard, hoping to win the card from Joey. Joey wins, and from then on the Red Eyes is his signature monster.

The Red Eyes is used against Para and Dox as a fusion with Summoned Skull to create the Black Skull Dragon, a monster that is strong enough to defeat Para and Dox's Gate Guardian and win the duel. Red Eyes is next seen when Joey duels Yugi, and is once again fused to create Black Skull Dragon. Red Eyes' next appearance is when Joey duels the Rare Hunters. Losing the duel and his dragon, Yugi duels the Hunter and wins the card back, although Joey insists that it's not his anymore. Yugi then duels Joey again under Malik Ishter's mind control, and using the Red Eyes as a symbol of their friendship, helps Joey break free of Malik's control. Yugi keeps the dragon until he duels Joey at the end of season 3, with the winner claiming the card. Although the duel in never seen, Joey does have his Red Eyes in season 4, implying he has become strong enough to defeat Yugi.
