The Black Gangsters (New Breeds) were formed in the year 1978. During the year 1978 the BGDN alliance experienced fracturing of the alliance. Jerome “Shorty” Freeman broke away from the BGDN and recreated the Black Disciples but this time as a separate entity (before BGDN there was the Black Disciple nation led by David Barksdale that was an alliance between several street gangs from 1963-1969). Now in 1978 the BDs were born again as a gang. Another break away group was the “Black Gangsters” led by George “Booney black” Davis. Davis controlled the west side faction of the BGDs starting as early as the early 1970s. When the BD/BGD split occurred, the Black Gangsters became the second major piece to break away. This was not a complete break because Davis opted to stay within the Folk nation alliance under the six point star. The Black Gangsters even retained the pitchfork as one of their symbols. The BGN came to be out of the A.B.L.A homes along the Roosevelt road corridor. The A.B.L.A homes are a combination of four housing projects: the Grace Abbott Homes, Robert Brooks Homes and Brooks extensions, Loomis Courts, and the Jane Addams Homes. From 1978 until 1987 the BGN had tight alliances with the BGDs and the BDs and various other Folks and heavily clashed with all People nation gangs, especially Vice Lords. In 1987, while incarcerated, George Davis was stabbed by members of the Black Souls while one of Davis’s top Lieutenants was killed by the Souls. Davis was angered very much by how the BGDs did not help out Davis by punishing the Souls. The Black Souls were not and never were Folks and the BGs were Folks at the time; therefore, Davis expected to be sided with. The BGDs (GDs) have historically had heavy ties to one another even though the Souls have never been Folks; this is probably why nothing was done about the matter. Because of this Davis dropped many Disciple concepts and only kept the three Ls: Love, Life, and Loyalty.

The organization then became known as the “Triple Ls, or Tre Ls.” The new concepts were developed by Maurice “Baldy” Jackson who represented the first “L” which was “love,” and Samuel “King Ram” Lawrence who represented the second “L” which was “life,” And George Davis who represented the third “L” which was “loyalty.” The Triple L structure modeled a lot of their concepts from the Italian Mafia. Even though there was a lot of bitterness between BGD and BG the Triple Ls remained Folks until about 1991. In about 1991 the Black Disciples entered into heavy war with the BGDs on the streets which caused the BDs to drop the forks. The BGDs dropped the “B” from their name and became known as simply the Gangsters Disciples (GD). The Triple Ls dropped out of the Folk nation alliance and began the “New Breed” concepts and became sworn enemies to the GDs. All ties to Folks and the GDs were severed and the Breeds changed their colors to black and grey. The Breeds still kept their alliance with the BDs. Over the years the Breeds have spread to Garfield Park, and in the Lawndale and K-Town sections of the west side. They have also spread to the suburbs. The BGs main enemies are GDs and Vice Lords, especially Traveling Vice Lords. The Breeds are neither People nor Folks either in prison or on the streets. It is said that when Breeds go to prison they flip the GDs or mainly BDs for protection under Folks.
