Founded in Toronto 2005 by Kurtis Baily, the Black Phoenix Society is a Canadian based organization bent on the education of First Nations and Black North-Americans.
Its members recognize the shared struggles of their respective denominations during the North-American colonial era as a unifying agent, having many of the same negative effects on their population as a whole.
They accept the hardships their people have endured as rights to the land they occupy paying little attention to restrictions placed on them by the official governments of North-America, stating that these governing factions have no grounds of sovereignty because of the unethical means by which they gained dominance.
While educating their population about its individual history the Black Phoenix Society also promotes awareness of the unethical abuse of indigenous peoples world wide and an understanding of world history as opposed to Euro-centric history.
While acknowledging what they understand to be their inherent ownership of the land they are generally accepting of the modern policies of the Canadian government.
