Black Religious Cults - These religious cults usually abandoned the conventional beliefs about god and about black people.
There were two major denominations in the Black Religious Cults, they are: 1). the "holiness" cults and 2). the "salvation" cults.
Both of these cults consisted of different views on how they viewed life and religion.
The Holiness Cults: Are centered around the belief that they need to restore a purer form of Christianity while still remaining Christians at heart.
The main way in which they planned on achieving this was by purifying all the members of the church.
Members of this cult were very dedicated.
In fact, they met every night and a meeting was held for the entire day every Sunday.
Also, the Holiness cults prohibited the members to partake in such activities as drinking alcohol and gambling.
The Salvation Cults: Differ from the Holiness cults by not wanting to be identified as Christians.
In fact they believe they must avoid being identified as Christians in order to gain salvation.
The way in which they do this is by following religions which are not common in America.
One of the most common religions followed by members of the Salvation Cults is Islam.
Some characteristics of their practices include when they attend services, the men and women are separated, there is no baptism or communion and very little singing in their services, and finally they lack the emotion that is usually present in the services.
