History

1997
A central hospital in Finland accidentally sells PCs with medical records of 3000 patients. The incident is widely reported in the news and is one of the biggest data security crimes which has occurred in Finland. The incident provides Mr. Väisänen with the idea of a 100% secure data erasure tool that would be easy-to-use for the secure wiping of hard disk drives.

Mr. Janne Tervo and Mr. Kim Väisänen co-found Carelian Innovation Ltd. The company focused mainly on different R&D –projects in the field of electronics and computer peripherial devices. In summer 1998 product development for Blancco – Data Cleaner began after successful market research and test marketing. According to the results of the market research, there were no easy-to-use, reliable disk-wiping tools available in the market.

1999
Blancco – Data Cleaner 1.0 version is launched into the market. Carelian Innovation sells its other product lines and R&D projects, including its succesful product Protekto – Antitheft Device for PC computers, to third parties. The company focuses on professional data erasure products that can be used by average PC users.

2000
Carelian innovations Ltd. changes its name to Blancco Ltd. in order to better support Blancco - brand thinking.

2002
Milestone of 500 000 Blancco customers is achieved.

2005
The data destruction software pioneered by Blancco is highly praised by one of the UK’s top forensic computer laboratories.

2006
Blancco achieved phenomenal annual revenue growth of 277% during 2001-2005 placing the company in the 21st position on Deloitte’s Fast 50 list. Deloitte has for the second time in Finland carried out the Fast 50 study, which ranks the 50 fastest technology companies by geographic region according to annual revenue growth over a 5-year period.

Client Products - erase all existing data including Confidential, Secret and Top Secret security level data. It covers all recognized international standards. (Blancco - Data Cleaner , Blancco - Lite, Blancco - Pro)

Server Products - combines data erasure and automatically performed hardware asset inventory within centralized custom databases. All gathered information is available for browsing and printing over the LAN/WAN. Reports are available for integration and exporting to other databases via network. (Blancco - WAN Server, Blancco - LAN Server)

Profiling Products - is installed to desired workstations for capturing reliable workstation asset information about all hardware components and selected software products/installations. They gather information about technical configurations of workstations and sends this information by https to a defined database. (Blancco - Profiler, Blancco - Remote Profiler)

Special Products - enable to permanently remove selected stored information on your hard drive and other memories. Marked files are overwritten a selected number of times, which makes it impossible to recreate the information. (Blancco - File Shredder, Blancco - Digital Media Shredder) or to erase the hard disk automatically if a computer ends up in the wrong hands. The Software can be programmed to be activated on a particular date or after a certain number of boot ups. (Blancco - Stealth Cleaner)
