Blascie is a black and white cat, made famous
through his reoccurring role in the 'Blascie Goes To Town' children
books. First created by author John Townsend, the
cat has become a national Australian icon embodying several themes
(such as love and fear) which are taught to its young readers
through lively anecdotes.
A cat which resembles Blascie.
On the 31st March, 1999, Hollier Books
published the first Blascie story, entitled 'Blascie Goes To Town',
in which the feline hero ventured into the city of Sydney in
pursuit of a small mouse. Its success led to several other
variations being written, including:
Blascie Goes To The
Pool
Blascie Goes To School
Blascie Goes To The
Country
Blascie Goes To The Moon
Though each story is highly
unrealistic, and includes such amazing feats as the hero piloting a
space craft, the use of anthropomorphic personification allows for
readers to associate with the animals.
