The feature film is set on an abandoned highway near the Everglades where people have been vanishing over the past 25 years.[1]
Shooting of the film began on October 6, 2007 throughout Florida. Principal photography wrapped in May 2008.[2] Principal photography began on October 6, 2007, according to the Orlando Chosen Sentinel [3] and the Hollywood Reporter.[4]

The 1973 Plymouth Duster used throughout the film was inspired by the car used in the Steven Spielberg movie Duel.[5] The 1971 Plymouth in Duel features the same basic chassis, interior and front end—although Bloody 27 features a coupe (Duster) instead of Duel's sedan (Valiant).[6]
