Bloomingdale Church is a Christian & Missionary Alliance[1] church located in Bloomingdale, Illinois. Dr. David Riemenschneider, the founder of Bloomingdale Church, is the lead pastor. The church has a rich history of employing prospective C&MA missionaries and has sent many of them overseas.

History

Bloomingdale Church began as a new congregation on April 2, 1978. Several families from the Lombard Bible Church and Blanchard Alliance Church in Wheaton joined together to plant the church. Starting with five families, the church met in a local school. In the initial years, Dr. David Riemenschneider invested a lot of effort doing a systematic door-to-door survey in the neighborhoods and invited people to the church. The congregation grew and moved to a building on the present five-acre parcel on Glen Ellyn Road in July 1979. The property also included a small brick farmhouse that is still a part of the church campus.

In 1984, the young congregation took a big step of faith and a major financial commitment to construct the present sanctuary. Five years later in 1989, the congregation added a large activity center with a vision to provide a place for the youth. The church acted as its own contractor and completed the activity center in 1990. In 1993, the congregation built the brown parsonage on the church campus. In 1995, the congregation embraced the challenge of doubling the size of the sanctuary and adding seven new classrooms, including the Solid Grounds Coffee House. In 2006, the congregation worked together to build a third parsonage on the church campus, designed to host missionary families as well as student pastors.

On Mothers Day 2007, the Bloomingdale Church family broke ground on the Phase Four addition. This building now provides a place for large group meetings, new children’s classrooms, elevator, library and additional parking. The 264 Coffeehouse, opened in April 2010, provides quality coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. [1]

OUR MISSION
MISSION STATEMENT
We want to help people to know Jesus Christ as Lord by being a caring, learning, worshiping, praying and outreaching community.

Caring
Our church activities are driven by a love of Christ and people, and demonstrated by each one of us in the church family having a caring/serving ministry in the church.

The Bible says, “Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” ( Galatians 6:2)

Learning
Our worship/teaching times and classes emphasize learning Scriptural truths and their practical application of these truths. All adults in the congregation are encouraged to participate in a small group. We provide regular training and seek to empower people for effective ministry.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.” ( 2 Timothy 3:16)

Worshiping
As a congregation, we meet for weekly worship that honors our God. Our ministries also create opportunities to worship together.

“Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs.” ( Psalm 100:2)

Praying
Individual prayer and prayer groups serve as the spiritual cornerstone for our church. Worship services, training classes, and home groups include prayer as a vital aspect.

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” ( Colossians 4:2)

Outreaching
Many of the church ministries, including the Sunday weekly worship service, intentionally welcome new friends who are in the middle of their own spiritual journey.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” ( Matthew 28:19-20 )

We love God and love people. We share the Gospel, disciple new believers to spiritual maturity, and challenge established believers to ongoing growth, equipping them to mentor others in the faith.

    Past

Bloomingdale Church began as a new congregation on April 2, 1978 . Several families from the
Lombard Bible Church and the Blanchard Road Alliance Church joined in the church planting project. Starting with five couples, the church met in a local school for more than a year. In the initial years, Pastor David Riemenschneider invested a lot of effort going through the neighborhoods inviting people to the church. The congregation grew and moved to an initial building on the present five-acre parcel on Glen Ellyn Road in July 1979. The property also included a small brick farmhouse that is still used as a single family parsonage.

In 1984, the young congregation took a large step of faith and a major financial commitment to construct the present sanctuary. In 1989, the congregation then voted to build a large activity center with a vision to provide a place for the youth. The church acted as its own contractor and the congregation dedicated the activity center in 1990. In 1993, the congregation built the brown parsonage on the church campus.

In 1995, the congregation embraced the challenge of enlarging the sanctuary and adding seven new classrooms, including the Solid Grounds Coffee House. In 2006, the congregation worked together to build a third parsonage on the church campus. The house is used to host missionary families as well as student pastors.

On Mothers Day 2007, the Bloomingdale Church family broke ground together for the Phase Four addition. This building provides a place for large group meetings, new children's and preschool classrooms, and handicap facilities.

Over the years, many new friends have come into the Bloomingdale Church family. Some discovered a personal relationship with Christ at Bloomingdale Church ; others have been nurtured in their faith and challenged to a deeper walk with Christ. Bloomingdale Church has also been a part of the ordination of a dozen assistant pastors and has assisted in the start of three other local churches.
    Our Future

Our mission statement (taken from the Bible) declares our priorities for the future. We want to be a "caring, learning, worshiping, praying, and outreaching community.” Though programs and strategies change as time goes by, our commitment to the essential Biblical purposes of the church endures.
