Bob Froese (born June 30, 1958 in St. Catharines, Ontario) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender.

Playing career

He played in the National Hockey League for the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers. Froese shared the William M. Jennings Trophy (for backstopping the team that gave up the fewest goals) with Darren Jensen as a member of the Flyers in the 1985–86 season. He played for a total of eight seasons, appearing in 242 games and winning 128. Froese was the first NHL goalie to place a water bottle on the top of a hockey net. [1]

Bob currently is the Senior Pastor at Faith Fellowship Church in Clarence, New York.

He was known as one of the nicest and most fun players in the NHL during the 1980s.

On November 28, 1987, Froese briefly became the second NHL goalie to score a goal in a game. An errant pass by the New York Islanders' Brent Sutter slid the length of the ice and into the Islanders' empty net on a delayed penalty call. Froese, the closest Ranger player to the play, was given credit for the goal. Later reviews showed that Froese had not actually touched the puck, and the scoring was changed. The play was still under review when Ron Hextall scored on December 8, 1987, and Hextall was thus hailed at the time as the third, not the second, goalie to score in an NHL game.
