Robert George (Bob) Thornton (born July 10, 1962, in Los Angeles, California) is a retired American professional basketball player in the NBA whose career lasted from 1985 to 1996. He was a 6'10" 225 forward. He holds career averages of 3.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in 283 total games.

Thornton played college basketball at University of California, Irvine, and Saddleback Community College, and was selected by the New York Knicks with the 87th pick of the 1984 NBA Draft.

Previously serving as an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls and with the CBA's Yakima Sun Kings and the NBDL's Quad City Thunder and Arkansas RimRockers[1], he is now an assistant coach and advance scout for the Minnesota Timberwolves.[2]
