Bobby Digi was born in Brooklyn, raised on Staten
Island and has lived in England, Germany, Nigeria, Ecuador and
Japan. Digi’s passion has always been music. He grew up with urban
music but was exposed to an eclectic mix of sounds, rhythms and
beats during his extensive stays abroad. With all this music
flowing through him, Digi has challenged himself to create
uncategorized musical styles that overstep boundaries and defy
limits. Bobby Digi is the creative force behind Thello
Entertainment, Inc. and he is determined to conquer the music
industry on his own terms.
This determined and charismatic
entrepreneur has racked up successes in every business venture he’s
undertaken. He rose from humble beginnings on the streets of
Parkhill and Stapleton, to owning a home improvement company, car
dealership and international trading business.
He obtained a
B.S. in Accounting, Finances and Economics and Business
Administration and amassed considerable real estate holdings in
NYC, Tokyo and Africa along the way. That might have been enough
for some, but for Digi, this was just the beginning.
In mid
90’s Digi decided to pursue his passion for music, and established
music production and record label. With his marketing savvy and
street-smart sensibility, he saw an opportunity to promote the
abundance of raw talent in the urban-music scene. Few were willing
to nurture and develop the talents of new kind so Digi decided that
Thello Entertainment would carefully develop its artists’
individuality with an eye toward long-term success especially
challenging markets abroad such as Japan, Hong Kong, Jamaica and
Africa where Thello’s global branches.
Bobby also launched Digi
Productions in New York located on Staten Island has the latest
audio and visual production facility and cutting-edge technology
recording studio. Upstairs, “Thello House”, Digi keeps several
apartments specifically for the care and tending of international
artists affiliated with his label. The newest tenant is CJ the
original member of the world renowned Reggae sound system “Mighty
Crown”. Recently signed to Thello Entertainment, CJ is a sing jay
with more than ten years headlining experience on Japan's Reggae
circuit.
Japan’s music scene totally embraced Digi’s
international label when Thello launched in Japan 2001, months
ahead of Def Jam Japan Records. Hungry for all things hip-hop,
Japanese youth present one of the most fertile markets for this
seemingly un-Japanese music genre and lifestyle. Digi quickly
carved out a niche in the lucrative and immensely popular hip-hop
scene in Tokyo, scoring a series of major hits in the Japanese and
English media. “Hip-hop is character," explains Digi. “To make it
as a hip-hop artist, you have to "be yourself" first and foremost.
It's not about imitating a sound, it's about character."
Digi’s
presence in Japan market attracted major artists from America and
Jamaica. He is known as the “Tokyo Boss” who specializes in
representation of Western artists in hot Japan deals. The
entertainment Industry knows that Digi is the key person when you
are ready to make big money in Japan! He represents the son of
Reggae Legend Bob Marley, Ky-mani Marley and platinum record
selling artist Wayne wonder and Yami Bolo.
