A
Boggle is a
crossbred
dog created by crossing the
Boston
Terrier and the
Beagle. Their temperament makes them good good indoor
pets for those who can't handle a beagle.
THe beginning of this
breed is unknown. Before six years ago it was virtually unheard of.
Such a dog would have simply been deemed a mutt and given for free
or small cost. Since then Pet stores have begun marketing and
selling cross-breed and the Boggle along with the
Puggle is one that is often
seen.
The Boggle is still under development. Strictly speaking,
the Boggle cannot yet be described as a
dog breed because it does not
breed
true. In breeders' terms, breeding true means that, when two
specimens of the same breed are mated, the puppies will have
consistently predictable characteristics, and will resemble their
parents, rather than exhibiting random characteristics of the dog
breeds in their parents' ancestries. Further, the
breed standards of
breeds-under-development are invariably freer, more open to
interpretation, and cover more observable types than those of
established or
kennel club-recognized breeds.
The Boggle
does commonly have a brindled coat though those with just brown or
tan coats are seen as well. The white markings of the Beagle and
Boston Terrier are almost always present in the Boggle. The tail of
the boggle can exhibit problems. It is somewhat prone to breaking
(perhaps due to a long tail/short tail mixed parentage). Some
owners simply choose to
dock
the tail. The breed exhibits the laid back attitude of a
Boston
Terrier and generally will sleep or entertain itself if left
alone but also is ready at a moments notice to fetch a ball or tug
a chew toy.
Some owners have begun calling the breed Boston
Beagles over Boggle which they feel is not dignified enough.
Another Boggle with an undocked tail.
