Location of Booneville, Iowa

Booneville is an unincorporated community in Dallas County, Iowa, United States. It is part of the Des MoinesWest Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community is named after the Boone family, who were local landowners.

History

Though once a thriving community, Booneville eventually saw a decline in population with reduced use of the local railroad as well as urban sprawl. The town of Booneville now comprises a restaurant and bar, a few stores, a Methodist church, a post office, and a long-established antique store, as well as a few dozen homes.

Booneville lies directly northeast of the Raccoon River, and a boat ramp near the town is used frequently.

Booneville may be annexed by West Des Moines, which lies only a few miles away.
