Boons Inc came into existence in November 2005 as an indoor cricket club at Major League Stadium in Ballarat. Founder, Andrew Robilliard, was a budding young star on the local scene wanted to create an indoor cricket team that would stand the test of time - thus Boons Cricket was formed.

Robilliard unsuccessfully scouted the local talent pool for new players, eventually settling for a motley crue of misfits including Aaron Burfurd, 'The Ratman', Sam, Koschy, Chris, Patty and Harold(?). After a fleating couple of seasons, Boons Cricket eventually found some form fledging their way to a number of results - and ultimately the premiership.

With the premiership came bitter contract disputes and inflated ego's. A number of players walked, but Robilliard was able to recruit a number of replacements which included Jono Vander Ploeg, Paulie, and the two Brians - Brian A and Brian B. The club went on to record another premiership, but the season was marred with more off field problems which resulted in the departure of glory hunter Aaron Burfurd leaving. The cricket franchise would never be the same...

In early 2007, Boons Inc expanded their horizens with the formation of a new franchise - Boons Netball. The netball franchise was created by 'new Boons' Adam Talbot, Linda Reus and Fiona Lorensene, along with Robilliard. They suffered a couple of hiccups, namely due to shit players such as Les and his two female companions.

The Netball club eventually went on to finish bottom of the ladder, forcing the club to make wholesale changes through the off season. Les and his two misfits were traded away for draft picks allowing the club to recruit highly rated forward Theresa Kearns, while also snaring the prized coup of Dutchman Daan Van Reil with the number one pick. They were also able to snag Sarah Adrians with a late pick in the draft who turned out to be a very handy half back flanker.

After the solid recruiting campaign, the Boons were champing at the bit and eventually went on to win the 2007 premiership dropping only a couple of games for the whole season. With Van Reil and Kearns up forward, supported by a water tight defence of Lorensene and Robilliard, combined with a solid spine of Talbot, Reus and Adrians - Boons Netball was about to take Australian netball by storm.

Season 2007/08 has begun the same way that Boons Netball finished the previous season with a string of sublime performances - namely their 48-3 victory over a local rival. Boons currently sit in second position and at time of writing, are only minutes away from moving top of the table.

The "Which is the Better Franchise" Dispute

In May 2008, Netball franchise member Fiona Lorensene almost cited a riot via email with her claims that Boons Netball was the better franchise. This was quickly debated by former Cricket franchise member Aaron Burfurd (who had turned his back on Boons months earlier). With Adam Talbot also getting in on the act showing his support for the Netball franchise, and also number 1 ticket holder Tully Smith showing his support for the Netball franchise, it was a case of 'us and them' for Burfurd, with Boons founder Andrew Robilliard settling the argument once and for all. Robilliard showed his support by suggesting that he liked all three franchises, but he enjoyed the cricket franchise less. With those simple words - the argument was over.
